We just got our studio copy of Blexbolex's book Seasons (Enchanted Lion Books) and can't stop looking at the images! We love the succinctness of the single-word bold text on each page and the poignant word pairings.

The images -- so everyday and at the same time so personal.

Sorry it's been so quiet around here. A few things have been happening including getting ready for gift shows, counting and more counting (inventory!), working on some new ideas and printing lots and lots of bags for our brand new stamp sets -- we have been keeping real busy!

The local paper ran a nice feature on Christine. Our personal favorite is this tip she gives:
Take a break: "Blow off work for the rest of the day! Head down the Peninsula to Old Port Lobster Shack for some summer vittles (a lobster roll), and hit the back nine at Malibu Grand Prix mini-golf." (oplobster.com, malibugrandprix.com).

Yellow Owl for Unconsumption

Christine was super excited to hear from Rob Walker, well known for his Consumed column for the NY Times, to do a custom project for his new project, Unconsumption. Unconsumption is, "... an idea, a set of behaviors, a way of thinking about consumption itself from a new perspective." Walker promotes these approaches through a blog, a wiki, facebook and twitter with tutorials, tips and an online community to share and engage with. He asked Christine to make a creative re-use project using the Unconsumption logo and voila! the Junk Mail Stationery How-To was born. Dwell on Design: A Photo Retrospective

Hey yall! We at Yellow Owl have been enjoying this super premium San Francisco summer weather with the studio door open, great tunes blastin and iced americanos galore...as well as putting together all our new great products and getting ready for the Gift Shows in July and August.

Last weekend, Christine spoke at the Dwell on Design conference in Los Angeles with Dwell's own Jordan Kushins. Christine's presentation, How-To Printmaking, was a part of the Design Innovation Stage complete with video, demos, tips and tricks. Thanks to everyone who came out to our West Elm event on Saturday! It was real swell to feel the local love and support.

Now that our Summer 2011 line has been launched, we wanted to share some of our favorite new designs, like our Geometric Thank You Set. In addition to selling individual cards, we also now have themed card sets in a slick, reusable box with lid! Another sweet boxed item is our new Mix Tape stamp, complete with ink pad and pencil. You know how much we at Yellow Owl love the lo-fi (remember our ceramic cameras?) and we're really stoked on this complete package that is ready for stamping action!

Look out for all of our new products on our online store later this week, as well as at your favorite shops and spots.

Our Next Big Event!

After all the fun we had at the West Elm in New York, we're gearing up for another printmaking workshop and book signing at the Emeryville West Elm next Saturday, June 11. The format of this event is the same as the last: first, Christine will be giving a demo on stamp carving (see a preview of what you're in for via Design Sponge) and then a book signing and reception for Christine's book, Print Workshop. We're so happy to be sharing this event with our local community and we hope you'll come out to join us! Space is limited for the demo, so be sure to arrive early. 4-5 is the workshop and 5-7 is the reception!

New York & More!

We had a whirlwind of a week going to New York and London for the NSS and our promotional events and workshops at both West Elm and Urban Outfitters. The Owls are hard at work in the studio putting together our new products (today we're working on the new California pendants!) while Christine and Evan are finishing up a visit to France (ooh la la!), one last hello to NYC and then back to SF. We are so appreciative of all the support and enthusiasm we've received in regards to our new Summer 2011 line, the warm reception at our events, as well as the great responses for our Design*Sponge giveaway (500 comments, what?!).

Below are some shots from our NY West Elm event and here's a link to view them all. It was excellent to see old pals, some family and meet new people, too. Totally impressed by everyone's creativity and abilities to make the projects their own. Thanks to all who attended!!

Jet-Setting & Stamping//City Hopping & Popping

So starting Friday, Christine and Evan begin a grand journey from our beloved California to New York, London, Paris and then back to New York! Along the way, they're going to be at the National Stationery Show (be sure to visit us at Booth 3550!!), the Print Workshop event at West Elm, which was detailed in our last blog post, and another great printmaking workshop and book signing at the Spitalfields Urban Outfitters in London!

The Urban Outfitters event is on May 19th beginning at 1:00 and runs all day! Remember, this is the Spitalfields Urban Outfitters, located at 132 Commercial St. The first 60 people to purchase Print Workshop will receive a 1/3 off their purchase! Hot dang! For all our UK fans, this is great opportunity to meet Christine, find out insider info on Print Workshop, and even try out carving your own rubber stamps! Yellow Owl is Visiting New York City!

Next week is the National Stationery Show and Christine, Evan and Virginia are getting all of our new sweet goods together for our booth! We've been shooting a new catalogue and tweaking new products, as well as working on some new packaging! (stay tuned for pictures)

While Christine is in New York, she's also going to be doing a rad printmaking workshop and book signing with our pals at West Elm and Potter Craft. The event will be held on Saturday, May 14th, with a workshop from 4-5 and then a book signing for Print Workshop from 5-7-- all at the West Elm on Broadway (at 62nd). Have you ever wanted to make something that you can use again and again? Have you ever wanted to be one of those crafty folks who has a box of beautifully printed goods on hand at any moment? Did you think that hat that looked like a bow at the royal wedding was hilarious and also secretly cool? Then this might be the event for you.

Stamp-Making Workshop A Success!

Last Wednesday, Christine arrived at our local Dick Blick to celebrate their 100 year anniversary by doing a printmaking and stamp demo! She taught people how to carve their own block stamps, make their own rub-on transfers, and stamp like a pro. People made their own versions of flying birds, crimson suns and pine trees using a rad template Christine made and also made a bunch of original designs (pizza stamp anyone?). The event was a ton of fun (so many cupcakes, so little time), and was even better when our pals Maria, Karly and Mark came by. Emily was there to lend a helping hand and even made her first carved stamp! Check out some of the highlights below and be sure to look at all of the pictures on our Facebook page.

We are so excited that one of our favorite art supply stores, Dick Blick is turning 100 this month! For this exclusive series titled "Honorable Ordinaries" Chris created a series of 68 miniature paintings depicting familiar household items that she has either had, lost, or wished to own. Each work celebrated the mundane articles from bomb pops to hi tops with medieval adornment. The print (10 x 13 inches, archival 100% PCW paper, serigraphed by hand, limited edition of 100) contrasts the abstract and ornamental, featuring modern geometric shapes that are illuminated with motifs composed of delicate lines and decorative elements from the middle ages. Christine done did it again! She was recently asked by Fossil to collaborate on its Long Live Art project, and the result was the above limited-edition pencil case stamp set, tote bag and watch tin. Fossil was incredible to work with and the quality of their products is top notch. We couldn't be happier with how everything worked out! Check it out folks - our newest notepad set created for Chronicle Books, available for sale now at Urban Outfitters! As you can see from the pics above and the great pics on the Urban site, it is a set of 3 woodland-inspired notebooks, each screened at the front and filled with lined and printed perforated pages. All 3 notebooks are held together at the top by a removable screw, and all are finished with an elastic band closure. So now you can pass love notes in style.

We just got word from our pal Megan about the opening of the Lesters Store, a rad new shop this weekend started by her and her friend Alison Kendall. The store is a project by they started based on their scientific expeditions to San Miguel Island in the early 2000s and the stories of the Lester family. Read more about it here. This has been a really exciting year for Yellow Owl. In what might be the best way to end the year, we just found out that our Analog Postcard Set is part of a new iphone app. The app is by Nearbynow, and it is actually a pretty neat idea. It compiles a handful of gift guides from major magazines, and allows you to find exactly where an item from a guide is stocked near your location. We've been waiting a long time to announce our new line of LCD notecards and woodland notepad sets coming out in May from Chronicle Books. Well, that day has arrived! The spring/summer 2010 catalog arrived last week, so it's official. These won't be in stores till May, but here's a little visual sneak peak for everyone... The LCD notecard sets will feature 20 cards and envelopes in 3 different sizes, plus our well-known "cheat sheet" and a florescent red colored pencil. The notepad set will feature 3 different sized notepads, eage with perforated kraft paper interior pages complete with hand drawn design. We can't wait to see them in person!

Happy Tday everybody! Hope it was nice and relaxing for everyone. We spent ours at a friend's house located in a little cove in Tiburon. It was right on the bay and it was A M A Z I N G. I calculated how many stamp sets we'd need to sell to live in a place like that and, well, lets just say that my brain overheated when I arrived at the number.

Anyway, relaxing, fun Tday has come and gone, and so begins the madness that we like to call holiday season. We have fun news to share about new shops and new press, and to start it off, I want to introduce our newest online retail stockist: Uncommon Goods!
